PREVENTION EFFORTS

The Birth of a New Prevention Dept at EC
By: Meg Wills

The mission of Enlace Comunitario is to eliminate domestic violence and advance the rights of immigrants. In addition to it’s already existing intervention services, Enlace has created a brand new Prevention Department inspired by the strengths and expertise of the families it serves. We have developed a unique and comprehensive strategy to prevent domestic violence and  promote healthier families. It begins with the recognition of   victim/survivors and child witnesses of violence as the most powerful agents of change in this movement. Enlace’s prevention strategy aims to build the  leadership capacity of Latino immigrant youth and adults by training them to raise awareness and promote understanding of domestic violence and its effects by offering workshops  in various community settings. Meanwhile, a culturally relevant media outreach campaign will be launched by our team of trained leaders, both adults and youth, to promote a transition away from societal acceptance of violence to social norms which discourage violent behavior and offer healthy alternatives. We are excited to take on this new and challenging work and strongly believe that the most influential and effective leaders and educators in this movement are those who have experienced that which we strive to change.  If you are a client of Enlace and would like to become involved or would like for your children to be involved, please speak with your case manager or with Blanca or Margarita at 246-8972.  Gracias
